Costs of Supporting a Child Actor in 2022 - A Yearly Budget Breakdown
A new year is upon us and those that are money conscious have already started to analyze their fiscal spending. Currently the USA is in a period of inflation, which means there is rising costs to virtually everything. We are paying more for the same goods and services and the amount of pay we receive on average is not moving - in fact in many cases it receeding.
I have created this Budget Guide to help bring an awareness to the committment needed and the surprising costs of pursuing a professional career in the Entertainment Industry. My hope is that there is no sticker shock for families that have decided to support their child’s dream. It can be expensive and this budget is on the average end. It does not account for multiple children.
There are some items that can be significantly reduced such as training. But you should weigh the costs of improving skill, staying competitive and being strategic with audition opportunities. You can waste more money by chasing a dream and not being prepared - year after year. This budget is about doing things the recommended way.
With Self Taping sticking around as the predominant casting platform, I have continued to omit the Travel costs section. That section used to adjust for travel costs, accomodations, fuel and food. Boy did that add up. Three cheers for self tapes!
Please put some thought into the amount of support you are able to provide your aspiring actor. Learn to budget for your family - not a dream. And when you want something and cannot afford it - BEG, BARTER and NEGOTIATE!
Here is the 2022 Child Actor Budget which boils down to an average monthly costs of $1370. The grand total annually is close to $16,500 for one child.
On the low end, with some sacrifices and finding deals, I can feasibly argue a family can reduce these costs to around $9000 a year. That averages to a monthly expense of $750.
